Artist Call Out

Two great opportunities for artists at Vitalstatistix

Vitalstatistix is currently offering two fantastic creative and professional development opportunities to artists as part of our interdisciplinary hothouse Adhocracy 2012

Adhocracy immerses artists and audiences in three days of open studios, artists’ talks, work-in-progress showings, audience experiments and site-specific happenings. If you weren’t at Adhocracy 2011, you missed the burgeoning of a new national event that independent artists have raved about. Now an annual fixture in Vitals’ program, Adhocracy is on again over the Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend, 9th to 11th of June, 2012.

There are two ways that artists can be involved in Adhocracy 2012.

The first way: As part of each year’s Adhocracy, Vitals hosts a three week lead-up residency with an interstate live art collective, who collaborate with ten SA artists to make and present a new work. In 2011 it was the infamous pvi collective. This year NSW artistic pair Jess Oliveri and Hayley Forward, and their umbrella Parachutes for Ladies, will lead this year’s residency making a site-specific work commissioned by Vitals called Dance Hall, a site-specific, residency-made work about dance and dance hall culture.

The second way: This year Vitals will select up to five creative teams to undertake creative development of interdisciplinary arts projects over the course of three days, in-situ at Waterside, as part of Adhocracy. This opportunity is open to artists from across Australia. Selected projects will be offered a grant of up to $3000, production and other support, and a highly sought after creative development environment.

The five creative teams that took part in 2011 have all gone on to secure further funding and presentation opportunities for their projects. Artists who participated made comments such as:

It is rare to have the support of an organistation to develop and present work so quickly and easily whilst being surrounded by artists using a similar process. This made for a weekend that was equally dynamic and supportive, fast paced and friendly, DIY and professional.”

Adhocracy is a genuine asset to artists and audiences and this year Vitals absolutely nailed this project.  It’s a winner on all counts.”

Adhocracy has the potential to become one of the leading mini-festivals in Australia for anyone who is serious about making new work, or serious about the watching of new work developing, or wants a cheap holiday with free shows and a well stocked bar, which could be every artist we know.  And their mates.  And siblings.”
